Memorable Meal

  • What was your most memorable meal? Where was it? What did you eat? Who were you with? Why was it memorable?
One of my most memorable meals was eating sushi for the first time. I was with one of my best friends who I have know since I was younger. We were going out for dinner together that night and she suggested we go out to Kofushion for dinner because the food itself is super good but also the restaurant is aesthetically pleasing which meant we could dress up and take pictures there. Back in January 2021, I agreed to go to this restaurant I had never been to this restaurant because it had food I had never tried before. I thought I should just try it to see how it tastes because everyone always hypes up sushi.

We got to the restaurant and sat down. The restaurant was gorgeous inside and had a beautiful blue color on the walls. My friend had been right about this place but I hadn't tried the food yet so I remained quiet. I looked at the menu and to my "surprise" found basically only sushi. My friend encouraged me to order sushi and so I looked at the menu and tried to find the one that looked like I might eat it and small since I might not like the whole thing. I also looked at the salads to be safe since I was quite hungry. We both ordered our food. She ordered 2 rolls of sushi which each have like 8 sushi's in them. I ordered a smaller sized sushi and a half salad. We then talked about life as I anxiously awaited the time that I would have to eat sushi.

About 15/20 minutes later, the server comes back and gives us our food. He also gives us chopsticks which I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE! I was pretty embarrassed at this point so I asked my friend to give me tips on how to use them. She gave me enough trips that I could kind of pick the sushi up and dip it in the soy sauce. Ok, now was the time we were both waiting for. I tried the sushi a small bite at first and thought it was not as bad as it could be and then a second bigger bite and I was like dang this is super good. I ate the sushi all up. It was so so good! I loved it. My friend was so happy that I liked it and was trying to get me to then try the wasabi by itself but I didn't. She tried it and was pretty grossed out by the green wasabi by itself.

The sushi and salad was so so good! I wanted to come back to the restaurant everyday after that. My friend had helped me try something new that I had been missing out on before. I realized now that I don't need to be hesitant to try things because in the end I might really like it. This was such a memorable experience because I learned a new food and experienced a great taste. It has made a large influence on me because I am now exposed to other cultures foods and am able to eat at this restaurant.

  1. Great post! I think I also had sushi for the first time at kofusion and I’m also really glad that I tried it since I also liked it a lot. I feel like you describe the moments of you being in the restaurant well and I got a good sense of what it was like for you when you first tried sushi.

  2. Nice post! It's always fun trying something for the first time and realizing that you really enjoy it. It's nice to have friends that push you to move outside your comfort zone a little bit. I really got the sense that you seemed really happy to have this new experience.

  3. The first time I ate sushi went pretty similarly. I remember kinda going through that same first, then second bite enjoyment. Granted, I was younger and needed a few more bites to get around to it. I don't really like wasabi either, even when it's together with sushi. You probably dodged a big bullet on not eating that by itself. It was cool to hear your story, nice job!

  5. I really like how you were able to get out of your comfort zone & try this new dish. Good for you! I also love the detail you put into describing how you felt & creating a whole story rather than simply describing the dish.
